If you’re looking for one of the ultimate American muscle cars, the 1970 AMX has got to be near the top of the list. This little recognized muscle monster has all of the collector car qualifications; rarity, extreme performance & great eye appeal!!! Let’s start with rarity. Only 4116 AMX’s were produced in 1970 with only 1632 bearing the 390/4-speed combination. Narrow that even further as this AMX has the highly desirable “Go-Pack” as well as many of the Dealer installed High Performance options from the “Group 19” package including an Offenhauser aluminum intake with dual Holley 4 barrel carbs, headers, Lakewood scatter shield/bell housing, limited slip diff, electronic ignition & many other goodies, pushing the horse power over the 400 mark as noted by the NHRA. The option list on this AMX is also extremely desirable including factory AC, close ratio power steering, power disc brakes & tilt steering.
The previous owner, a doctor from Saginaw, Michigan, had minor cosmetic reconditioning performed on a no rust, no hit original sheet metal body. All panels are laser straight with great fit & finish. The car was originally a “Shadow Mask” version but the doctor opted to have the nose painted in the same gloss black as the rest of the body. The interior is in showroom new condition with all vinyl, carpets, dash pad & trim renewed with NOS components as needed.
To drive this car is a real treat with “break neck” power, great steering & brake response yet with all of the comfort options available in the day.
One thing is for sure…you won’t see another 70 AMX, 390 Go-Pack/Group 19, 4-speed with all the toys, at any car show or cruise nite you’ll attend. We’ve owned the car since 2003 & haven’t seen another like it!!
